Country music first started in the southern United States. We wouldn't have country music if it wasn't for western cowboy and folk music. In the 1940 country music really started becoming popular, but it wasn't called country music, it was called hillbilly music. Harlan Howard stated "Country music is three chords and the truth." When country first started they used a lot of different instruments, they used a fiddle, harmonicas, guitars, violins, and banjos. But now they come away from all those.
